MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and the NYU Stern School International Management Program. B’Build Science and B’Arch Hons., Victoria University, New Zealand. Member of the NZVCA. Registered Architect in the State of NSW and the NZIA. Member of the Green Building Council. Contributes privately as an Architect on community projects.
Michael brings together his experience in capital markets (debt/equity/securitisation), project finance and private equity to emerging and new sectors of investments.
He founded and managed four pioneer emerging market funds in VC/TMT, growth (www.3tscapital.com) and renewable energy (www.enercap.com) totalling over Eur 260 mil as well as raising capital from investors and coinvestment with leading European, corporate, UK and US VCs.. He has partnered with Advent International, 3i, KfW, Sitra, EBRD and the EIB and was a member of the Investment Committee on all funds completing over 30 investments. He has experience in all aspects of PE and fund management as well as direct investments. Added to this are 25 years working with investors, fund formation and management and as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch in NYC.
Building on his recent experience investing and commissioning 170 MW of project financed wind and solar projects, Michael has looked to the next generation of impact investments combining his knowledge of building technology, sustainable communities and urban solutions, energy efficiency, clean tech and emerging markets to identify new models for funding these programs.
Michael has worked on collaboration most of his career starting as an Architect creating design solutions for clients and project managing construction projects, working as an investment banker alongside specialist desks in corporate finance and M&A as a transaction adviser with sector teams advising governments on privatisation and setting up and managing large consulting teams in Southeastern Europe for USAID.
Michael has worked in New Zealand, Australia, US, UK, Europe and Central Europe. He is resident in the Czech Republic and Germany.
